Fund Raising to January 2008.
|
April 23, 2008
Greenville Seminary students, especially seniors, are eagerly
anticipating the end of the semester and graduation in a few short
weeks. We consider this another milestone in our history as it will be
the first class to graduate from our new location. Many thanks to each
of you who are continuing to support the vital work here. Income for
the Capital Funds Campaign has reached $1,908,863 and we anticipate
another $1,065,084 in outstanding pledges. As mentioned in previous
months, due to inflation and the interest on our loan, we need to raise
an additional $500,000 to complete the objectives of the Campaign.
Please pray that God will continue to provide necessary resources and
also guide us in being wise stewards of the funds entrusted to us. Your
prayers and gifts are not only meeting the practical needs and expenses
of our move but are also a source of great encouragement to the
students, faculty and staff.
March 28, 2008
On March 10th Greenville Seminary had a formal dedication of our new
building. Dr. Morton H. Smith gave a plenary speech on our rich
heritage as those who value the faithful preaching of God's Word by
men trained to live consistently with what they preach. It was an
encouraging and heartening time as many who have supported the Capital
Funds Campaign over several years saw the completed building for the
first time. We are very thankful for all those continuing to make payment on previous pledges. We also need to raise at least an additional $500,000 in gifts
and pledges in order to complete the objectives of the Campaign. As of
the end of February, income for the Capital Funds Campaign has reached
$1,887,266 and we anticipate another $1,082,433 in outstanding pledges.
We are nearing the time to order bricks to be placed on the grounds of
the new building. This is a wonderful way for individuals, families,
churches and businesses to become a permanent part of our new campus. If
you would like to have a brick placed in memory or in honor of someone
dear to you, please click here for a form or call the Seminary at
864-322-2717, ext. 318. Each single brick can have up to three lines of
text with up to 20 characters per line (including spaces).

Please join us in praising God for the completion of the renovation of the Old Taylors High School. We began classes in the new building this past week. This is an important milestone in the history of Greenville Seminary. The students, faculty, and staff are humbled by the knowledge that we could not have reached this point without the prayers of many faithful supporters. We will continue to report on the progress of the Capital Funds Campaign as pledge payments continue to come in and additional gifts are still being applied to the original campaign goals. As of the end of January, 2008, income for the Capital Funds Campaign has reached $1,878,845 and we anticipate another $1,088,387 in outstanding pledges.

We have now raised over $2,950,000, praise the Lord!
The focus in the Capital Funds for the next 6 to 12 months will be on receiving the amounts of money pledged by our donors, but not yet received. Nearly all (98%) of the $3 million goal has been pledged, but only 65% has been received.
Meanwhile, the construction of the new building is complete. We have obtained a loan from the Bank of Tennessee at very favorable terms, enabling us to pay the contractors and the construction company on time. It remains for us to pay off this new bank loan with the money pledged but not received.
We are awaiting the Certificate of Occupancy from the county government and hope to have it by the end of January.
Many thanks to each of you who have helped us through this important transition in our history as a seminary. Your prayers and gifts are greatly appreciated!
December 26, 2007
We are excited and grateful to be nearing the completion of the renovation. Lord willing, we will take occupancy in January. Students, staff and volunteers moved the library this month and we are making plans for a dedication service to be held during the week of our Spring Theology Conference (March 11-13, 2008). All friends of the seminary are invited - we hope that many of you who have prayed for this transition will be able to join us.
The entire seminary community is greatly blessed to have support for this project from so many individuals and churches, both through prayer and financial contributions. We have now surpassed 96% of our original financial objective (we have received $1,793,810 and still anticipate another $1,100,754 in outstanding pledges). We still need about $200,000 in new gifts and pledges to meet the original goal and we have raised the Capital Funds goal by another $300,000, because of inflation, the reality that some pledges may not be met, and the interest we will pay on our bank note. If you are in a position to contribute to this final phase of the Capital Campaign please click here for details. It is not too late to order a brick to be placed near the entranceway of the new building. This is a great way to honor someone in your life, or in history, who has loved and valued the historic reformed faith.

The new seminary building renovation is about 75% complete, with work scheduled to be finished this fall. We have received about half the money we need, with the remaining half pledged but not given.
Amount of money pledged from donors, but not given yet: $1,163,319
Amount of money received to date (since 2003): $1,615,319
We have applied for a low-interest line of credit in order to complete the remaining work on the building; we hope to have this loan in place within a month. Meanwhile, our General Fund has dipped very low, especially this last month. We are asking the friends and supporters of Greenville Seminary to consider giving to this important renovation project, or to help us with our regular operating expenses by giving to
the general fund, if you are able.
Thanks for your interest and generous support in the past.

URGENT: We need to raise $100K by the end of this month. The building renovation is proceeding, but $100K of the remaining $800K needed to complete the building is needed immediately to ensure there are no cash flow problems. We strongly encourage all churches and individuals who have not given yet this year to do so now. Pledges over the next 36 months are also welcome and encouraged.

You are invited to the
GPTS "Groundbreaking Ceremony" Saturday, February 17, 2007
Old Taylors High School
Main Street, Taylors SC
10:00 AM - 12:00 noon.
November 1, 2006
The portico, which has been in existence since the Old Taylors High School was rebuilt after a fire destroyed the original building in the 1940's, was removed over the summer. This will allow us to create a new, ADA compliant entrance. Up to this point, the work on the new building has been limited to the interior and the roof. The removal of the portico was the first sign to the surrounding community that work on the building is in progress.
The Building Committee is in the process of choosing a contractor. Meetings were held the first week of November, and the final selection will be made in early December, with formal groundbreaking to follow.
Photos of the portico removal are available on the building tour.
August 23, 2006
Work on the new building is moving ahead. The portico, which was falling apart from dry rot and age, was removed in early August. Next, the Building Committee will meeting in mid-September to tour the building, review the drawings on site and to discuss the procedures for awarding a contract for construction. Your prayers and support are appreciated.

We are pleased to announce that over $70,000 has been raised for the Capital Funds campaign since the Prospectus was mailed last fall! While we are still under our $800,000 goal, overall we have raised just over one million dollars since the campaign began in 2003, (and recently received an additional $54,000 in relation to our acquisition of the Mt. Olive Tape Library.)
Our next step is to start renovation, which we hope to do this fall. For those seeking to sponsor the renovation of a room or wing, figures for each part of the building are now in place. We will post those to the website as soon as we can. We were surprised, and pleased, when the Greenville News recently featured our efforts to renovate the Old Taylors High School, and a follow up profile on Dr Pipa, in their City People section. You can read the building article here, or go to our Resources page.
October 12, 2005
The Capital Funds Campaign Prospectus was mailed in September despite several technical difficulties, including a corrupted address file that lead to the return of over 200 packets. But in the Lord's providence, $33,000 in gifts and pledges have been raised from the appeal so far, and we are moving toward our $800,000 goal!
We were recently informed that we will not have to renew our building permits after October 31st. With this issue out of the way, renovation on the building can continue once the needed funds are raised.
September 24, 2005
A person driving by the our new facilities may think that renovation has not yet begun. Much work, however, has been done, but in places one cannot see. For example, a chimney was lowered to roof level, a new roof has been installed, and the entire interior has been gutted, cleared of debris, and pressure washed. The building now looks much better on the inside. So what's next?
Our prayerful goal is to have a million dollars in new contributions and pledges by October. Reaching this goal would permit us to hire a general contractor in November and, Lord willing, complete the renovations in a timely manner so that we would be able to move into the building before classes begin in the fall of 2006.
Our new Capital Funds Prospectus is almost completed and will soon be mailed. Individuals on our mailing list will receive the document within the next few weeks. If you would like to receive a Prospectus and see how you can join GPTS in our efforts to renovate our new facilities, please send an e-mail to us at development@gpts.edu. |
