Mission Society Being Formed

Tony CurtoDr. Tony Curto, associate professor of Practical Theology in Missions and Apologetics, has announced the formation of a new Mission Society for students and faculty at GPTS.

The group, patterned after certain historic mission societies at 19th century seminaries, is designed to encourage seminarians to consider foreign missions as their future ministry or to educate future domestic pastors to discern mission matters worthy of their churches' support. He noted the difficulty many pastors and missiologists have filtering appeals from the thousands of mission endeavors worldwide seeking support.

"How can we keep in step with what the Holy Spirit is doing in the world if we don't know which way He is walking?" Dr. Curto told students in an initial briefing about the society on Dec. 1.

The new society will meet to hear missionary presentations or give students opportunities to study and report on mission fields. Dr. Curto, himself a veteran missionary in Africa and Europe, said the society will endeavor to raise funds for students to finance overseas field education and mission field internships.
