Riverview PCA in Charleston, WV
Mr. Byron Calhoun writes the following: We are a PCA church in Charleston, WV located in the heart of the city along the Kanawha River. We have a congregation of about 40 active members many who are above 60 years but we have a smattering of younger members like myself. The congregation has been in existence over a 100 years but only about 10+ years at our present location. The old church was destroyed by arson and we moved to the new location by God's provision. I have been there about 3 years and have been a ruling elder since shortly after our arrival here (previously a PCA ruling elder elsewhere). Our buildings are paid for and we have great access off several main roads with good parking. We have no outstanding debts. It is a great group of people and almost everyone is active in some way. Our present pastor will be retiring for age and health issues, so a younger pastor is exciting for us! We have what I would describe as a worship along the true Presbyterian form of regulative worship. We are not "seeker friendly" and see to preach the whole counsel of God. If you would like to talk to me about our congregation, I'd be glad to do so! We'd love to have you come see us!
Elder Calhoun may be reached at (304) 741-4031. His email address is

Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, TN
Greetings from the Session of Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church of the Presbyterian Church in America. Bridwell Heights is a member of Westminster Presbytery which is composed of 24 churches located in the Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia area. The Session is currently composed of the Moderator and Pastor Larry E. Ball, Clerk of the Session Bob Lane, Jim Baird, Dr. Phil Hudnall and Roger Holbrook.
After 31 years of faithful service, Larry Ball is retiring from the pastorate in March 2012 to spend more time with his children and grandchildren, and we wish him well as he relocates to be closer to them. We also look forward to the time when our generous God and Provider will once again provide a providential pairing of His chosen man to our church. Our church is stable, both financially and spiritually, and we are excited to begin this next phase of our life as we continue to serve the Lord here in Kingsport, Tennessee. Our congregation is composed of people of all ages, and we value the covenantal family unit as the fundamental building block of our church. The families in our church have a chosen mix of educational routes, including public schooling, Christian schooling, and home schooling. Our congregation has a reputation of genuinely caring for each other and ministering to each other in love. On the Lord’s Day our activities include Sunday school, followed by a morning and evening worship service. On the first Sunday of the month when we observe the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, the morning worship service is followed by a fellowship meal, and there is no evening service. On the third Sunday of the month, we have an evening fellowship meal when we get to know one another better and often hear a special speaker.
As part of Westminster Presbytery, Bridwell Heights adheres to certain distinctives listed in the “Conflict Resolution Position Paper of Westminster Presbytery,” such as a belief in six literal 24-hour days of creation and that women are disallowed from serving as deacons of the church by any definition. That presbytery document is available for your review. Additional positions taken by Bridwell Heights which we believe needful to communicate upfront include: expectation of expository preaching; holding to the historic view of the regulative principle of worship; practice of lovingly administered discipline when necessary for God’s glory, the congregation’s edification and retrieval of a sinning brother or sister; embracing an optimistic eschatology which includes an expectation that Christ’s Kingdom will continue to grow and influence all societies of the world.
The Session, after a season of prayer, reflection, introspection, and critical evaluation, has identified and targeted certain areas of opportunity for nurture, growth, and change: evangelism, personal and corporate involvement in the Great Commission; discipleship, family devotions, Sabbath-keeping, and small group options; shepherding; prayer; and leadership development. These targeted areas for nurture and change are the joint challenges and opportunities we see for our Session and next pastor. As our church continues through this search for our new pastor, we remain in prayer that God will bring His man to Bridwell Heights and that together we can continue to press toward the mark of our high calling in Christ. If we can assist you in any way or answer any questions you might have, please let us know. May God bless you as you continue in faithfulness to Him.
Information related to this ministry opportunity may be found on the PCA ministry opportunity webpage or may be downloaded directly here. To apply, download a copy of the information packet, doctrinal positions, and church profile form at the link provided above. Instructions are provided therein.
